On Saturday evening, September 25, 1999 at 8 PM, the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts will present a special concert in memory of Alexander, Ming, and Ivan Tcherepnin for their contribution to Chinese music and also celebrates the 100th birthday of Alexander Tcherepnin. This concert is co-sponsored by the Tcherepnin Society.

Alexander Tcherepnin was considered as the father of contemporary Chinese music. He devoted his efforts in promoting Chinese music around the world. Many of his own compositions reflected a Chinese character. Those Chinese musicians whose lives were touched by Tcherepnin in the 1930's are now important composers and performers in the world.

In this memorial concert on Saturday September 25 at 8 PM, Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Chang, Hung-Kuan Chen, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston will be directed by Lan Shui, the brilliant conductor of Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
